Two New Major, Math and AI in West Lake University

Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the results of filing and approval for undergraduate majors in undergraduate education institutions in 2023, as well as the 2024 catalog. It shows that West Lake University has added two new undergraduate majors: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and Artificial Intelligence. At present, West Lake University has gathered a group of top-notch international faculty in the undergraduate majors of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and Artificial Intelligence. These top scientists will personally teach undergraduate students.

West Lake University was established on February 14, 2018, and is the first new research-oriented university in the history of China to be organized by social forces and supported by the state. In 2022, the school officially launched undergraduate enrollment. Previously, the school had offered five majors: Biological Science, Physics, Chemistry, Electronic Information Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering.

As a new type of research-oriented university, mathematics is one of the essential core foundational disciplines of West Lake University. It is reported that the newly added Mathematics and Applied Mathematics program currently has 17 permanent/prospective research professors, all from top international mathematical research institutions, including Chen Huayi, who is dedicated to research in arithmetic geometry and previously served as a professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Paris de France.
