Eduardo Saluana, President of the Peruvian Congress, recently stated in an interview with Xinhua News Agency in Lima that Peru highly values its relations with China and looks forward to using President Xi Jinping's visit as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation in various fields and create more benefits for the people of both countries.

In response to the invitation from president of Peru, Xi Jinping has attended APEC 13th Leaders' Informal Meeting, and visited Peru formally, in November 13th to 17th, in Lima.

Saluana has said that, Peru admires the tremendous achievements of China's development. China has firmly propelled the set goal of development. Fast growing economy, highway, railway and related infrastructure and intelligent city management, all of above have largely enhanced people's life quality. Development of intellectualized and mobilized technology, has not only made people's life convenient, but also improved national competitiveness. These should also be the target of our efforts.

Saluana also said, as one of APEC members, China has positively facilitated the development of regional trade and investment, propelled the transfer and cooperation of technology, enhanced the communication of infrastructure to each other, made itself a important engine of world's development.

“Take Qiankai Port in Peru as an example, it shows a real case that China could develop itself and facilitate to develop other countries simultaneously.” Saluana said, Peru is located at the middle of west coast of South America, holding the condition being the regional hub. Qiankai Port invested by Chinese enterprises will reduce the direct ship sailing time, furthur promoting trade Asian countries and Latin American countries, like Peru, Chile, Argentina, creating huge market opportunities among agriculture, mining, and manufacturing industries in Latin America, stimulating economy vitality of Latin American countries.

Saluana pointed out that the Qiankai Port is not only related to port trade, but also brings advanced technology for investment from China. The modern smart port with green and low-carbon features will operate in an intelligent and efficient manner, creating more employment opportunities for local residents and bringing tangible benefits to the Peruvian people. Peru is welcoming a better stage of development.

Qiankaigang port is a vivid epitome of the high-quality joint construction of the “the Belt and Road” between Peru and China. Salouana hopes that in the future, the two countries can continue to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, promote industrial upgrading, and deepen cooperation in trade, technology, and education.

Saluana said that Peru China friendship has a long history and is deeply rooted in the hearts of people from two countries.
